chocolate protein info

Peas

Pea protein is a superhero ingredient for your muscles! It's naturally cholesterol-free and packed with branched-chain amino acids that help your body build and repair tissues.

Chia Seed

Chia seeds are packed with omega-3 fatty acids and tryptophan for a healthy brain and mood. Plus they're a good source of calcium and phosphorus which keep your bones strong and healthy.

Pumpkin Seeds

Rich in phytosterols, manganese, tryptophan, magnesium, copper, zinc, and iron, pumpkin seeds are a goldmine of nutrients. They're also a source of omega-3s for keeping your heart and brain in tip-top shape.

Hemp Seeds

Hemp seed is not only a complete protein with all the essential amino acids your body needs, but it’s also loaded with essential fatty acids and superstar minerals like magnesium, manganese, iron, copper, and zinc.

Quinoa

Another complete protein that contains healthy monounsaturated fats and more of those good omega-3 fatty acids. Chock full of minerals, quinoa is made up of magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, manganese and copper. Iron, B-vitamins, vitamin E and fiber round out this nutritious superfood.

Coconut Oil Powder

Unlike other protein powders that use sunflower oil high in omega-6 fatty acids, we use non-GMO coconut oil powder in our protein powders. Why? Because coconut oil is a reliable source of beneficial fatty acids and easily absorbed by your body. It also adds a delicious taste and smooth texture without any added fillers. You’ll taste the difference with our standout ingredient - real coconut oil!

Natural Sweeteners

Stevia Leaf Extract and Monk Fruit are plant-derived, low calorie sweeteners. Monk Fruit is a fantastic alternative to straight Stevia because it brings all the sweetness without a bitter aftertaste. Enjoy the best of both worlds - delicious sweetness without any drawbacks!

Why should I choose non-GMO foods?

GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organisms. Genetic modification is a technique that alters living cells to produce new chemicals and functions in plants and animals. Many food scientists question the safety of genetically modified foods because they do not know if eating GMO foods over a lifetime can damage our health.

What is “vegan”?

Veganism relates to a lifestyle or dietary choice that avoids animal products. A vegan diet is free of animal ingredients or animal-derived ingredients. A vegan is a person who does not eat or use animal products.

What does “gluten free” mean and why is it important?

Gluten is the sticky protein in certain grains including wheat, barley and rye.

To people with celiac disease, a gluten free diet is very important because it’s the only known treatment for celiac disease, an autoimmune digestive disease. People with celiac cannot digest gluten, which causes inflammation in the digestive system and affects the small intestine's ability to absorb nutrients from food. Symptoms of celiac disease include diarrhea, bloating, fatigue, and anemia.

People with gluten sensitivity have symptoms similar to those with celiac disease but test negative for it and wheat allergies. These people may feel fatigued, depressed, bloated and have abdominal pain.

Gluten free grains include rice, corn, quinoa and buckwheat.

I have noticed “soy free” foods lately and want to know if soy products are unhealthy.

Soy is one of the top food allergies, especially among babies and children. Symptoms of soy allergy are typically mild, although anaphylaxis is possible. People avoiding GMOs may avoid soy since more than 90% of soybeans grown in the U.S. are genetically modified.

Soy can disrupt thyroid function which may lead to hypothyroidism and thyroid problems. Soy contains phytoestrogens, compounds that mimic human estrogen.

Is eating dairy free healthy?

People may go dairy free if they are lactose-intolerant, have a milk allergy or are vegan.

People with lactose intolerance don’t have the enzyme lactase which helps to digest milk and they can experience diarrhea, nausea, bloating and cramps when eating dairy products.

Milk allergies, one of the top 8 food allergies, occur minutes or hours after having milk or milk products and can cause hives, wheezing, vomiting, diarrhea and cramps.

People may also avoid dairy for ethical reasons or believe it helps keep their skin clear.

Is chocolate really a healthy choice?

Far from being a “guilty pleasure”, the chocolate in our Plant Protein is highly nutritive and free from the sugar, milk fats and oils found in chocolate bars. Further, cocoa is produced by grinding cocoa nibs to powder after removing the cocoa butter, thus minimizing the naturally occurring fat content.

The cocoa and organic cacao in this premium blend are filled with important and widely researched minerals and antioxidants including copper and magnesium.

Sugar is a natural ingredient so why do I care if there’s no sugar added?

Overeating sugar has been linked to inflammation and increased health risks. It's important to check labels since manufacturers frequently add sugar to products you wouldn’t consider sweet, such as pasta sauces, chicken nuggets, cured meats, and ketchup. Also, sugar comes in many forms such as cane syrup, high fructose corn syrup and crystalline fructose.

What is stevia leaf extract?

Stevia leaf extract is a non-nutritive, sweet-tasting extract derived from the stevia plant.

What is monk fruit extract?

This fruit grown in Southeast Asia is 1-1.5 times sweeter than sugar, so very little is needed to sweeten foods or beverages.

Are natural flavors healthier than artificial flavors?

In general, artificial flavors tend to be in overly processed foods. If a food product contains artificial flavors, check to make sure that it doesn't also contain other less desirable additives like artificial colors and preservatives.

What’s wrong with artificial colors?

Artificial colors may cause hyperactivity and behavioral changes in children. Some artificial colors have been linked to increased health risks.

What’s wrong with artificial preservatives?

Some artificial preservatives have been linked to increased health risks.

What are the manufacturer’s credentials?

This dietary supplement is made by a GMP-certified and FDA-regulated company in the USA.

Very smooth. I make lots of fun recipes in the winter when I am to cold for a smoothie. Hot chocolate, protein muffins/cookies (I use protein in place of flour) and my favorite is pancakes with the vanilla protein! The pancakes are so good...just 1 scoop of vanilla and two eggs blend up and make delicious pancakes the kids will love.
